Graduation Information



Congratulations on earning your degree! To mark this important accomplishment, you are invited to participate in the Undergraduate Physics and Astronomy Convocation, to be held virtually on May 16, 2020 at 12:30 p.m, directly after the University Commencement Ceremony.  We hope you and your family will join us to celebrate your noteworthy efforts and achievement of the past four years.

Who: Physics and Astronomy Graduates of August 2019, December 2019, and May 2020 and their family and friends
Schedule: Forthcoming - but will will
 include brief congratulatory remarks from department administration, faculty, as well as student representative, Spencer Hulsey. We hope to also include a video montage highlighting our Physics and Astronomy graduates.

These questions are incredibly important in allowing the department to keep in contact with you as well as determining the placement of our graduates.

Campus and the local community can be very, very busy on this day. Restaurants are usually very busy and waits can be long. As part of the Department event, we offer a congratulatory reception of light appetizers in the KCPA's Studio Theatre following the convocation ceremony. All graduates and their families are invited to attend.


You are eligible to participate in the Department of Physics/Department of Astronomy Convocation Ceremony if you graduated since May 2019 or will complete requirements this May.


You must register in advance to participate in the Department of Physics/Department of Astronomy Convocation Ceremony. This year's registration process is completely online. In order to complete your registration, please click on this link to provide information required for the Convocation program.

Registration must be completed by 11:59 pm on Friday, May 15, 2020.

Students will be allowed a maximum of four (4) tickets to provide to their guests. No guests will be permitted to attend without a ticket. Tickets may be picked up in the main departmental office, room 211 Loomis. The pickup dates will begin in April. All tickets must be picked up no later than 4 pm on Friday, May 15. Students may call Suzanne Hallihan at 217-244-7151 or email  if they wish to be put on a waiting list to receive additional tickets. No additional tickets are guaranteed at this time.

Regalia is not worn or required at this ceremony.


The Krannert parking garage will be open and available for guests to utilize. If the garage is full, there is parking available at the meters all along the streets bordering the Krannert Center. Accessible entrances are located in the garage at any of the elevator entrances in all 4 areas (Blue, Green, Orange, Yellow). Krannert Front of House staff will be on hand for anyone that needs assistance.

You are also welcome to park at Loomis Laboratory and walk to KCPA. Parking Lot B21 on the east side of Loomis Laboratory and MRL building is most conveniently located for our convocation ceremony. Parking is also allowed at any street meter except for those which are "bagged," marked with a gold "reserved 24-hours/day" sign, or a "handicapped" reserved sign.
