The night sky is not just for scientists - it is for all of us.
Our goal at UIUC Astronomy is to share our passion for exploring the night sky with our community.  We seek to ensure that people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to learn about astronomy, from the amateur to the professional level.

Observatory Open House

Body

On the 2nd Friday of each month, the University of Illinois Astronomical Society holds free open houses at the campus observatory (map). Visitors have the opportunity to gaze through the original 12″ refracting telescope, as well as several smaller scopes. In addition, astronomers will be on hand in the observatory to answer questions and discuss astronomy-related topics. Additional information about these events can be found here. If it is cloudy, there will not be observing, but there will still be activities inside the observatory.
