Harvard astrophysicist David Charbonneau joined the Department of Astronomy on September 30 for the 2026 Icko Iben Jr. Distinguished Lecture, The Terrestrial Worlds of Other Stars.
Charbonneau explored what astronomers are learning about rocky planets orbiting nearby stars, including how observations from the NASA James Webb Space Telescope are providing the first insights into their atmospheres. He also looked ahead to the Habitable Worlds Observatory and its potential to help answer one of astronomy’s biggest questions: whether we are alone in the Universe.
The lecture was free and open to the public, with attendees joining both in person at Lincoln Hall Theater and online.
