Dr. Lew Snyder was a professor at the Astronomy Department for over 30 years. He was dedicated to his graduate students and strove to help them present their papers at various national conferences. This award was created to honor Dr. Snyder so that future generations of graduate students are able to present their research to a wide audience.
The award is offered every semester, with preference for students who have not previously received the award. The call for applications is near the middle of the semester and will be announced by department staff. Applicants should clearly explain how attending the conference would allow them to showcase their research achievements and benefit their professional development. Applicants should also provide a reasonable and realistic budget and discuss what other sources of support are available to fund the travel. Funding is for travel to a specific meeting that must be identified in the application.
For fall term awards, the conference can take place anytime from the beginning of the previous summer to the end of the following summer. For spring term awards, the conference can take place anytime from the beginning of the spring term to the end of the following fall term.
Students interested in applying for this award may do so by filling out the application.
