Led by Prof. Decker French, the IDEAS program (Illinois Developing Equity in Astrophysics Summer School) has once again received financial support from the Illinois Space Grant Consortium! IDEAS is an 8-week summer program, running from June 3 to July 26, that matches undergraduate students from historically underrepresented groups with faculty at the University of Illinois doing research in astrophysics. Students will have both a faculty research mentor and a graduate student mentor. At the end of the summer program, undergraduate research students will share their results in a department-wide research showcase.
An important aspect of the program is that the students are fully funded, with a stipend of $600 per week, free housing, and a subsidy of $500 for travel to and from Champaign-Urbana. Applications are due on March 1, 2024 and should be submitted at the link below. We look forward to welcome a new cohort of students to the U of I this summer!
